A split system into an upstairs bedroom, in three stages. The wall comes open, the pipework and drain get run back through the cavity, and it closes up with the head unit above the door and the controller beside the light switch.

Building? The ductwork gets marked up on the plan, then run while the frame is still open. Plenums and transitions are fabricated in the workshop to suit the job rather than ordered in and made to fit. It is the difference between a system that moves the air it is rated to move and one that whistles from the first day.
Already in the house? We will look at what is there before quoting anything new. Outlets get picked to suit the room either way.
Heat the rooms you are in, not the ones you are not
Zoning splits the house into sections that run on their own, so the bedrooms are not being heated all day while everybody is in the kitchen. It is the biggest single thing you can do about what a ducted system costs to run.
On a new build the zones get set out on the plan. On a system already in the roof it depends what the ductwork will allow, which is something to look at on site.
The unit is the easy part
Where the outdoor unit goes. Where the outlets land. How the return air sits in the ceiling. That is the part you look at every day once we have gone, and it is worth twenty minutes of arguing about before anything gets cut.

Carbon monoxide testing
Gas ducted heaters tested for CO leaks. Heat exchangers crack with age and you cannot smell it.
Duct cleaning

How often should it be serviced?
Once a year for a house, to keep it running at the efficiency it was sold to you at. Light commercial systems are quarterly, because they run far harder and the filters load up.

Ask whoever quotes you for their ARCtick number
Anyone handling refrigerant in Australia is required to hold one. Ours is ARCtick 16982, alongside PIC 37001 with the Plumbing Industry Commission. Both appear on our advertising and on the vehicle, as required.
